This has been an exciting summer for Downtown Boca Raton. As a lawyer, business owner, and Downtown Business Alliance President, this summer has been a summer of non-stop community and activity.

The Community Redevelopment Agency had a marathon hearing regarding a large Downtown ultra-luxury condo development, Mizner 200. After 6+ hours, the warring parties were sent back for some private negotiations to find a resolution suitable for all. The lawyers and architects were all on show, and it looks like a few hundred 7-figure residences will be built.

The Summer in the City series at Mizner Park has brought thousands of people together most Friday nights to see top-notch musicians. The weather has even cooperated. The Downtown Business Alliance shined a spotlight on the Boca Raton Historic Society, gathering over 100 people for a wine, Champagne and food reception, and let all discover a cultural gem many business owners had never visited. Architect Derek Vander Ploeg gave a lecture to members, especially Downtown realtors, about Tower 155, his vision of the future of Downtown elegant living, at its sales office as it continues to rise from the ground.

On demand, free transportation started, with Slidr complimenting Pedicabs on the streets of Downtown, to take residents to entertainment and allow visitors to go from one place to another, without walking or getting back into their cars.

A group of residents, the Waterfront Alliance, has formed and is doing its own waterfront planning to add to the work of EDSA, the City’s consultant, to transform the City’s waterfront parks and create an economic and recreational driver in support of the Downtown. We may soon see water taxis, walking paths, art and food link the beach to
Downtown through a revitalized waterfront park system. Boca Chamber Festival Days benefited and highlighted a different non-profit each night throughout August, with many Downtown venues providing the location for good deeds. Good people, good food and good times are all Boca hallmarks.

It used to be “off-season” in Boca during the summer, but no longer. And, now Downtown Boca is clearly a year-round place to live, work and play!
